An evening of wine tasting & canapés

Last Friday evening we were joined by Richard for a relaxed wine tasting evening. Our guests enjoyed sampling an array of our favourite reds, whites and rosé, all of which paired perfectly with a selection of tasty tapas style canapés.

Throughout the evening Richard shared his wealth of knowledge with our guests and gave them reccomendations for further tasting based on the new favourites they found.

For those who didn’t get to join us for this occasion here is a run-down of the wines sampled:

Charles Smith Kung fu girl; a smooth and aromatic wine with flavours of apricot, key lime and nectarine. It’s medium-bodied, with a crisp, long finish. Kung fu girl is from the Columbia Valley region of Washington State, two states up from California on the west coast of the USA. The grapes are grown on a cool site, making this wine beautifully refreshing and helping it pair perfectly with vegetarian dishes, chicken and white fish including cod, Pollack and Dover sole.

Els Pyreneus La Cote Flamenc Picpoul de Pinet; a medium bodied dry white wine, full of citrus and tropical fruit flavours, with mineral notes to finish. This wine is a very easy-drinking dry white, with apple and pear flavours and is enjoyed best with seafood dishes and light lunches.

Legato Inzoli; has hints of white flowers and lemongrass, it is light and fresh on the palate with a zesty citrus finish. Matches beautifully with chicken and paella.

Domaine d’Astros Rosé; a cool and crisp wine with zesty pink grapefruit and raspberry on the nose, a dry palate with some strawberries and citrus layered into the finish. Overall it has a great balance and a long delicious finish – It’s one of those rosés which is just made for those hot summer days.

Miolo Pinot Noir; is a medium-bodied wine with a sweet and velvety texture, delicate tannins and aromas of raspberry, blackberry, strawberry, plum, warm spices and chocolate. This wine is made from the Pinot Noir grape variety which makes very soft, easy drinking wines.

Valdivieso Single Vineyard Cabernet Franc; with flavours of roasted peppers, sweet spice and black fruits. This wine has a rich and smooth texture, with food concentration of taste. The Cabernet Franc grape was used to make this wine. It’s a fairly unusual variety and makes very deeply coloured wines with masses of sweet spice and black fruit with just a hint of liquorice. Best enjoyed at a summer barbecue or with a delicious steak.

Garzon Tannat; this red wine represents the signature Uruguayan grape variety that has found its idea soil in Garzon. This expression of Tannat is an intense red and black fruit wine with lingering aftertaste, freshness and softness. Enjoy its silky texture with flavours of black plums, dark chocolate and pepper with our cheese board, duck or venison dishes.
