July gin of the month

Over the years the award-winning Gin Mare has become a true favourite on our shelf, with it being a weekend favourite for our neighbours and a hero in our cocktails crafted by our team. It’s a gin that has pushed the boundaries of what a gin could and should taste like; It’s savoury and unusual with balanced but complex tasting notes. Over all it’s a well-rounded gin and that’s why Marcel, one of our most dedicated bar team members, has chosen it for July’s gin of the month.

Let’s get to know the gin a little more…

Gin Mare (meaning ‘sea’) is inspired by the Mediterranean just like us and is distilled using the finest botanicals from around the Mediterranean Sea, such as Arbequina olives, thyme, rosemary and basil, which gives it that authentic Gin Mare taste.

How is it made? Gin Mare is created using Mediterranean crafts and time, in order to obtain a truly superb gin: from a premium barley house, through delicate maceration and distillation which is independent for each botanical including olives, thyme, rosemary, basil, cardamom, coriander and juniper berries gathered from their very own Gin Mare farm along with citrus fruits, soaked more than one year in advance, finishing with their authentic blending which expresses all the fine characteristics of each botanical in the final product.

Gin Mare to taste…

A testament to the brother’s vision of a locally inspired gin that houses the vibrant tastes of the Mediterranean. It smells herbaceous, with resinous juniper and thyme dominating, with olives very much apparent. When you take your first sip, you’ll be hit with juniper followed by a burst of basil before rosemary and thyme emerge through. The combination feels savoury and different to other gins on our shelf, making Gin Mare both authentic and original. It can be considered as being part of the very short list of ‘herbal’ gins, and when served with the right tonic, it makes for a perfect aperitif.

How to pair…

In our eyes, nothing beats a classic G&T, especially with this superb, flavoursome gin. So, we recommend pairing it with Fever-Tree’s Indian or Mediterranean tonic water, garnished with rosemary – Aaah, we’ll take a glass now on the terrace, please!
