Much of the inspiration for Burley Manor has come from the tales from its history. The latest is from the historic manor house legend, Mrs Lister-Kay ‘the Fair Farmeress’ whose impressive Italian garden and fowl run at the manor were featured in Ladies Field magazine in 1900.

Her ideas have influenced the new Burley Manor with its kitchen garden, chicken keeping and traditional slow food ethics. We’re hoping to shortly announce our very own modern day ‘Fair Farmeress’ – a lovely lady farmer. She will take care of Burley Manor’s traditional kitchen garden, supplying our chefs with vegetables and herbs as well as eggs from the chicken coop of course.
